Joseph asks…
What is the nutritional value of watermelon peel/rind?
What nutrition is there in the “green part” of a watermelon? I’ve heard it is very healthy to eat, I’d just like to know why?

Peter answers:
About 10 calories..its basically water

David asks…
What is the nutritional value of watermelon?

Steven asks…
What is the nutritional value of the Watermelon’s green flesh adjacent to the red?
can it be used for cooking as a vegetable?

Peter answers:
Pretty much none. Like a cucumber which I think it resembles in flavor. The most common use is for sweet pickles. All of the watermelon pikles I have had are too sweet for me but I had it in a mixed dill relish and couldn’t tell the difference. I have seen it cooked on one of the food shows just steamed.

Daniel asks…
How do i calculate the nutritional value of these…?
How do i calculate the nutritional value of ….
1 kg Watermelon
1 kg Carrots
1 kg Cucumber
1 Kg Mango
1 Pc Apple
1 Kg WaterCrest
Please help me…i need to find their nutritional value…thank you.

Charles asks…
Do beets have any nutritional value?
Personally, I like them although they taste like they’re mostly made up of water, like the essence of cucumbers or watermelon.

Peter answers:
Preparation, uses, and tips
Beets are best when cooked whole, to retain the flavor, color, and nutrients. To prepare beets, cut off the green tops, leaving an inch of the stem to prevent bleeding and flavor loss. Scrub beets, wrap them in foil, and bake for 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on their size, at 400°F (200°C). Let them cool slightly and then peel the skins off. Baby beets can be steamed whole for about 30 minutes, then peeled and sliced. Beet leaves have a rich flavor resembling that of spinach. If they are crisp and bright green, they can be steamed or braised with onions and garlic in a little olive oil.

Your Questions About Weight Loss Fasting Plan
February 19, 2012 by Peter

Mary asks…
My plan. Weight loss FASTING plan.?
I am wanting to start a diet. More like a starvation. I dont like to use the word
starvation. I like to use the word fasting. I am going to attempt to not eat anything for an entire week. This is not solely for weight loss, it is also a test of will power. I want to prove to myself that i can pull myself away from this addiction i seem to have with food. If i can last a week, without going utterly insane, and if everything with my body seems to be fine, then i want to attempt to carry this out for two weeks. I will be drinking excessive amounts of water.
Sometimes straight water makes me feel sick, so i like to add 5 calorie matobilsm boosting packets, tea flavored is preferable. I have heard so many things about starving to lose weight. Most of them consist of… the fact that you will lose weight by starving, but you will gain it back as soon as you start eating again.
When you dont eat, your body goes into starvation mode. Then it hangs on to all the fat that is stored, then once the fat is gone , it feeds off of your muscle in order to sustain itself. Then the pounds will drop.
People seem to think this is just awful. Oh, but its perfectly okay when a religious person does it for religious reasons, right? No. IF it isnt right to do this to lose weight, then it isnt right to do it for religious reasons either.
Now, when i start the starvation process, it may go wrong and i might end up regretting it. But i want to try it atleast. If i absolutely can’t handle it, t hen i will stop, but if i dont drop dead, then i will contintue it.
I am an 18 year old girl, I used to be so cute, but now i am 200 pounds, and i hate the way i look. I am hideous, i hate being this big. I need to be at 140 pounds. My goal weight right now is 150. If and when i get to 150 again, i will set another goal, maybe 130.
I am 5 ft 3 in by the way.
I just hate myself right now.
I do have P.C.O.S. poly cystic ovarian syndrome.
Doctors have wanted to check my thyroid before, but never have.

Peter answers:
Re your weight loss fasting plan. Okay first off, not eating for a week is about the WORST thing that you could do for your body. Not only will you not be able to carry out normal everyday functions, but your body will go into starvation mode. This starvation mode means that when you do start to eat again your body will hold on to every single calorie and gram of fat that you put into it because it doesn’t know when you’ll eat again.
So in other words, you will gain back the weight you loose at super speed.
Seriously, if you want to loose weight that fast, just eat a bunch of veggies (like cabbage and carrots) and at least one fruit a day, and a bunch of egg white(for protein and it’s fat free).
Something really important to remember is that lean protein will end up helping you loose more fat and gain more muscle. Also, cabbage and celery have negative calories. That means you will actually be BURNING more calories by eating them.
So please, don’t starve yourself! Also get the PCOS checked out as that could be causing your weight gain

Carol asks…
What is a good weight loss fasting plan that works fast?
Ok I’m a 19 year old male, about 5′ 5” and 190 pounds. I want to lose weight even if it not really fast, but the faster the better. i have fat in my stomach, thighs, and chest. i need a list of foods to eat and foods to avoid, besides fruits and veggies which i already eat. I also need an exercise plan to go with it. I wont have a problem sticking to it either. Thanks for your help.

Peter answers:
Works and fast don’t last. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to rearrange your thought processes and be patient:
Here’s all you need to lose weight all over, look good, and get really healthy. First, you have to realize there is no quick, long lasting weight loss plan or pill that is going to do the trick. It’s purely mental. You have to learn to “Eat to live, don’t live to eat”. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It is, if you understand that you are going to be reprogramming how you think about eating for the next few weeks. Old habits die hard, right? Not really. You get rid of bad habits by replacing them with good habits. If you learn to count your calories, keep calorie intake lower than output, exercise moderately, and eat only healthy food, you will lose weight. That’s a fact. All it takes is repetition. All success stories have this in common: The successful folks among us know how to be patient, persistent, and consistent. Set a goal, write it down, and stick with it. The benefits of feeling good will outweigh any sense of sacrifice you might feel about having to push away that cake and ice cream. I need a weight loss fasting plan, please?
I need a quick crush down diet. It doesn’t matter if it isn’t exactly the healthiest. I need to lose as much weight as I can before October 24. Please help me if you can. I’m a 22 year old female. Thanks a lot!

Jenny asks…
Most effective weight loss fasting plan?
I need to lose some weight, about 30-40lbs. I need, not necessarily a fast weight loss plan, but an effective one. I want to be able to see results. I can’t get out to a gym and I do not own a treadmill. I’m 15, 5’4, and about 165lbs. I really don’t look fat, but i feel uncomfortable with myself, even though everyone says i’m not fat.

Peter answers:
Eat less and exercise. It’s the ONLY effective weight loss plan.
Anyone who says otherwise is selling something.

Weight Loss Supplements – Your Questions Answered

Lizzie asks…
Are weight loss supplements dangerous or do they work?
I am doing some weight training for the first time. I love working out and want the best possible results. I’m seeking to become a personal trainer, do some excersise videos, and be in a few fitness magazines. Do weight loss supplements, such as hydroxycut or slimquik, really work? Are they dangerous for your body? How do they work?
Thank you kindly for answering. I appreciate you all.

Chris asks…
What are good vitamins or supplements to take to aid in weight-loss?
I am 22, 5-11 and 230 pounds. I have started running to lose weight but I have only seen weight gain. I know I am building muscles and weight will increase, but I still feel that I am not losing the weight I could be losing. I am taking vitamin B but I was wondering if there were any other good weight loss supplements to take?

Peter answers:
There are no vitamins or supplements that will help you lose weight. If you keep to a well balanced healthy diet then you will take in everything you need on those lines.
Count the calories, spread out the meals to keep your appetite in control drink enough water and exercise. Doing this will lose you weight.
There are plenty of places to find out recommended calorie needs etc.
Avoid extreme diet like Atkins. These do leave you short of essentials. And moreover they are often boring and therefore hard to stick to.

Daniel asks…
Are weight loss supplements harmful to teens or children going through puberty?
I’m not asking on advice to lose weight, I just want to know specifically if weight loss supplements might be any more harmful for teens than for adults.

Peter answers:
Of course yes, kids and children should avoid the supplements. They should take only the natural diets only. They should do some exercises, that’s enough for teens and children.

Helen asks…
Does anyone know of any particularly good weight loss supplements?
Does anyone know of any particularly good weight loss supplements?
I’m looking for something to help curb my appetite (not to replace a meal, just curb the hunger between meals) and boost my energy, but not make me jittery.
I’m just looking for a good supplement that is legal, helpful and over the counter.
I’m not trying to lose massive amounts of weight but I feel like I need a little boost to go with my better eating habits and exercise.
I think I will try the whole chocolate thing!

Peter answers:
The first thing to learn about weight loss supplements is how and why different types work so that you can find the best one for your own body. There are some good articles posted here that explain how and why different types of diet pills work. Http://www.weightlossfatloss.us/diet_pills.asp Find the right one and they work great.

Donald asks…
are there weight loss supplements that actually work?
do you know of weight loss supplements that actually work? im going to the gym and going to eat healthy but would like to also take something to help me as i am very over weight any tips?

Peter answers:
Not without a prescription. Eating healthy (including portion control) and exercise is still the best way to lose weight. 1-2 pounds/week is considered reasonable healthy weight loss. You may lose weight a little faster than that at first as your body adapts to eating healthy and exercise. However, more long term rapid weight loss is more stressful on your body and less likely to be permanent.
Cut out sweets, seconds and junk including processed foods and things made from white flour. Use the whole grain version instead like whole wheat or multi-grain bread, whole wheat pasta (which I actually prefer), and brown rice. Drink only water. However, allow yourself one small cheat a week. This keeps you from feeling deprived and gives you something to look forward to the rest of the week.
Some people have no snacks. I find I get headaches if I don’t eat more frequently, especially when first starting to eat healthy and exercise. I’ll allow myself a healthy snack of a small piece of fruit or veggies. Just be sure no dressing or peanut butter with it. Studies have shown that it is better to have 3 medium size meals and 2 small snacks rather than just 3 large meals. This helps keep blood sugar more steady. Plus you won’t feel so hungry at meal times.
Try dividing you plate into quarters. First fill half with fruits and veggies, The other quarters are for the lean protein and whole grain carb. This will help limit your calories and ensure you get plenty of fruits and veggies.

Natural Weight Loss Supplements Your Questions Answered

Lisa asks…
What are the best natural weight loss supplements?
I’m looking to lose around 10 pounds quickly..like 2-3 weeks if possible. I try to get to my local track twice a week and walk/jog around 2 miles each time I go. Other than that I don’t have a lot of time to exercise besides doing push-ups and crunches with an exercse ball.
Are there any natural weight loss supplements that work really well? I am trying to stick to a diet as well, I eat around 1,000-1,200 calories a day and eat tons of fruits and veggies.
I’m willing to try non-natural supplements too, if that’s what it takes. I really, REALLY want to lose. Please help?

Peter answers:
A good diet and proper exercise. You can make time for exercise if you really wanted to. People just keep making excuses about not having time to do so.

Donna asks…
natural weight loss supplements?
Just replies from people who have used something and have experience to share. Also tell us where you got it and roughly how much it was if its not a grocery store item.
I already take a multivitamin with all those in it and I’m not losing any weight, even with exercise.

Peter answers:
I have found that when dealing with natural weight loss supplements not all products will work for all people. Women need to take non-stimulant weight loss products for 8-12 weeks for you to notice any significant weight loss. I would make sure that you drink plenty of water. The usual recommendation is to take your body weight and divide it by two. The result is the minimum number of ounces of water that you should consume per day.The product that I have found some good success with is called Slimirex. This natural weight loss supplement does contain a mild stimulant.
Slimaluma™ – This herb has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine as an appetite suppressant and weight loss promoter.
Super Citrimax® – This herbal extract is combined with chromium and other minerals and herbs into a potent clinical strength formula. It helps to curb the appetite while helping to promote the substance in the brain, which helps maintain a positive mood. Citrimax® also includes a natural body energizer.
Advantra Z® – This extract of a natural Chinese citrus plant has the unique ability to help fire up your body to promote fat burning. It also functions to help energize your body while helping to support the creation of lean body and muscle mass.
7-Keto – This naturally occurring substance is responsible for breaking down the hormone DHEA (the hormone of youth). 7-Keto triggers enzyme in the body to help turn up the process in the body that burns fat, while boosting mental wellbeing. 7-Keto levels can decline with age so it is important to keep the levels up.
Gugulipid – This resin from a tree has been used in Ayurvedic Medicine for over 2,600 years!
It has been revealed that this resin helps to support normal cholesterol levels and control fatty build-up. The substance found in Gugulipids is also believed to have the ability to bind to fats and cholesterol and help flush them out of your system.
Forslean – This special herbal extract has been found to be an important weapon in fighting fat while helping to promote lean body mass.
Bioperine® – This extract from black pepper has been found to help enhance the body’s natural ability to turn up its firepower to burn fat. Bioperine® also works in helping the nutrients you take be absorbed more efficiently.
I hope this helps you to achieve your weight loss goals.

Betty asks…
Any natural metabolism/weight loss supplements?
I am very obese, female, 5’6. I am on a lifestyle change, working out 5 times a week, cutting calories, cutting all bad things out of my diet. I take a vitamin. I was wondering if green tea supplements/metabolism boosters, etc, would be efficient and good to add to this new lifestyle. Any suggestions?
I am 20.

Peter answers:
Balanced diet and exercise. Period. I just know if you are taking in more calories every day than you are burning running on the treadmill, you have to make some changes. Drop your caloric intake or increase the amount of exercise, or better yet – do both. Little things that can help – replace your computer chair with an excerise ball, take the stairs instead of the elevator, don’t skip meals (and make them healthy meals), fidget (belive it or not tapping your foot or clenching your butt while you sit burns more calories than just sitting still). Good luck

Sharon asks…
Natural Supplements in aide to weight loss?
I am wondering what are some NATURAL supplements to help in aide of weight loss. I am currently taking green tea extract, a multivitamin, a B vitamin complex, fish oil, L Glutamine, and L Carnatine… Are there any other out there that help with metabolism or weight loss?

Acid and alkaline foods in the pH balance diet
February 17, 2012 by admin
The main concept behind the ph balance diet is to maintain a balance of pH in the foods that you eat. The human body is slightly alkaline and therefore it is better for your health to eat a diet composed of alkalizing foods. When you eat too many acidic foods, your system becomes unbalanced and it can cause a whole host of problems, including weight gain, poor concentration, fatigue and depressed immunity that can lead to more serious conditions.
The ph balance diet relies on lists of foods that are acidic (to be avoided) and alkalizing (to be emphasized). The alkalizing foods are better for your health and help to balance the pH of your body.
While acid, alkaline and pH are common terms, many people do not understand exactly what they mean and what they have to do with nutrition and health. The word “basic” comes from the Greek word “basis” which means foundation. “Basic” relates to the properties of acidity and alkalinity.
These conditions are determined at the foundation of the cells that the foods are made up of. So an external treatment does not change a food from acid to alkaline. Foods are acid or alkaline at their base, or foundation.
Acid and alkaline are chemical opposites. Whenever these bases interact with acids, there is a struggle between them and salt is the result. In the chemist’s lab, these interactions are very simple and straightforward. However, in our bodies, the interaction becomes more complex because of the scale at which acids and bases meet. However, science can make some generalizations about the effects of acids and alkaline in the human digestion system.
Acidic foods are acid forming in the human body. They make blood, lymph and saliva more acid and cause a lower pH number. Alkaline foods make blood, lymph and saliva more alkaline and cause a higher pH number.
Just for reference, the “normal” range for saliva pH is between 7.3 and 7.4. Most people, however, are too acidic and have a pH that is much lower. They are burned out, tired and their bodies are starving for balance. Under the influence of acidic foods the muscles fatigue easily. You literally slow down because your body cannot produce the same physical results as before. The free radical oxidation that occurs when you eat acidic foods makes you age faster. Vitamins and minerals are not absorbed as readily. Friendly bacteria in the small intestine die, which puts the digestive system off balance. Further hurting the function of the intestine is the fact that a high level of acidity inhibits the ability for intestinal walls to absorb nutrients. Cells become stressed with the toxins that build up and cannot remove them. The vast majority of bodily systems cannot run at full capacity.
On the other hand, alkaline foods have a wide variety of benefits to your health. Eating them improves your muscle output. They also have antioxidant effects in the body. They increase assimilation at the cellular level and allow cells to operate in the manner that they should. There is a reduction of parasites and yeast overgrowth with the use of alkaline foods. Alkaline foods promote deeper and more restful sleep, more youthful skin and relieve suffering from colds, headaches and the flu. Alkaline foods promote abundant physical energy.
Perhaps the most important differences between acid and alkaline foods are their relationship to cancer. Cancerous tissues are acidic, and health tissues are alkaline. When oxygen enters an acidic solution it combines with hydrogen ions can form water. Oxygen helps to neutralize the acid, but acid prevents oxygen from reaching tissues where it is needed. When oxygen enters an alkaline solution, the two hydroxyl ions combine with the solution to create one water molecule and one oxygen atom. The sole oxygen atom is free to go to the next cell and bring the benefits of oxygen to all of the tissue in the body.
At a pH of slightly above 7.4, cancer cells become dormant. Studies show that at pH 8.5, cancer cells die and healthy cells live.
Alkalizing the diet has many benefits, in addition to cancer prevention. The alkaline food list is a selection of choices that will benefit your health when you start incorporating them into your body.
Is a Detox Diet Plan Safe?
February 16, 2012 by admin
A detox diet plan is a popular option for those who want to lose weight quickly, and although many people rave about these diets, there are also several groups or individuals that are quick to point out negative claims against the diet. So far, detoxing diets have had their own share of controversies, claiming that they can be unhealthy and dangerous to the body.
First, what is the dictionary definition of detox? The Oxford English dictionary defines it as the removal of toxic substances or qualities.
There is a world of difference between a detox diet, i.e. products that you consume, and detox products for the body. You can detox by reducing the intake of harmful toxins and foods, or you can detox by taking chemicals or carrying out procedures to “purge” the body. The first approach is inherently safer than the second, as long as you are still getting a balanced diet.
The Potential Dangers of a Detox Diet Plan
It important to point out that there are different kinds of detox diet plans available today. These diets differ mostly in food restrictions. For example, some diets only promote one type of fruit or drink throughout the whole duration of the program. Some diets on the other hand are more flexible and allow you to eat from a variety of food choices.
Because there are plenty of diet programs out there today, it is important to learn how to choose the best diet for you, based on how safe and effective it is – and not just based on its weight loss capabilities.
What is a Detox Diet Plan? A detox diet plan would generally last from five days to two weeks and involve drinking two to three litres of liquid a day, generally water. You would be asked to remove from your diet, caffeine, red meat, alcohol, tobacco, sugar and salt. You would eat lots of fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, rice and grains and possibly juice. If you want to get away for your detox program, you may also expect some pampering, a massage with aromatherapy oils, but maybe also a colonic irrigation.
Detox diets come in a myriad of terms, for example, lemon detox diet, three day detox diet, simple detox diet, apple detox diet, liquid detox diet, marthas vineyard detox diet and even the beyonce detox diet.
What To Look At When Looking At A Detox Diet Plan
The first thing to consider when looking for a detox diet plan is the list of foods allowed in your diet. Your diet should allow you to eat fruits, grains, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans, some healthy oil and even a little fish. Following a diet program that only recommends one food type or food group may lead to nutritional deficiency, so you might be better off looking for a healthier and more balanced program.
The Potential Benefits of a Detox Diet Plan
- A lot of us lead unhealthy lifestyles. A detox diet plan will force you to eat healthily at least for a short period. So depending on what your normal diet is, it may be no surprise that you lose weight and feel great at the end of it
- For the more expensive programs, it’s an excuse to go away and be pampered and potentially return glowing.
- If it encourages you to change your diet for good and eat and drink healthily, then that’s a good thing
Can I Start A Detox Diet Plan?
- Safe diet programs, although helpful and effective, are not for everybody. Before following the diet, you should consider several factors such as pre-existing illnesses or conditions. You should not go on these types of diet if you are pregnant or suffering from chronic and terminal illnesses. If you are still a teenager, you should not follow a detox diet plan.
Is a Detox Diet Plan Recommended?
Because of its natural and healthy cleansing effects on the body, detoxification and body cleansing is beneficial on a regular basis. What you should remember, however is that not all detoxification programs are the same, so you should do your research and choose properly.
Most of the popular diet programs for detoxification are those that promote rapid weight loss. However, rapid weight loss is extremely unhealthy, and so is starvation. In these situations the body can release internal toxins as an emergency response. Also as soon as you stop you will rapidly regain the weight and more. Remember that this type of diet should not just focus on the weight loss aspect but should be more about allowing your body to cleanse and purge waste and toxins safely and naturally. Any diet for detoxification can sound promising and convincing, but keep in mind that your health and safety should always be the top priority. Choose a diet that’s safe and healthy, even if it doesn’t result to quick weight loss right away.
The Rocking Body Raw Food program works on recognised dietary principles and makes sure you have all the nutrients you need. It also gives you a lot of information and a lot of guidance. Take a look and see what you think.

Charles asks…
Is there a website that helps you to read & understand nutrition information?
I have a dairy, egg, and sugar allergy, so now I have to read all the food labels. The problem is, half the time, I don’t know any of the words in the nutrition list and can’t tell the difference.

Peter answers:
Here are two helpful printouts for milk and egg allergies, they list some ingredients to avoid.
http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/misc/eggallergy_cutout.html
not sure what u mean by sugar allergy.
If u have a true allergy to these foods, u absolutely need to talk to ur allergist to ask them for info on looking for these foods on labels. This is a common problem unfortunately.
In the US, most foods these days have a note near the ingredients that might say something like CONTAINS WHEAT or CONTAINS EGG-DERIVED INGREDIENTS, but u should check the long ingredients list just in case.
As a result of the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA), manufacturers are required to identify in plain English the presence of ingredients that contain protein derived from milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, or soybeans in the list of ingredients or to say “contains” followed by name of the source of the food allergen after or adjacent to the list of ingredients.

Chris asks…
Recipes calling for egg yolks?
I love my egg white omelets in the morning, so I usually just buy pre-separated egg whites in a carton because I hate to waste the yolks. Can anyone direct me towards some healthy recipes (meals or baking) that call for egg yolks? Preferably ones with nutrition information made available. Thanks!

Peter answers:
Off the top of my head no.. But you can freeze egg yolks.
So just separate and freeze..

Nutrition And Health For Kids

Carol asks…
I need to teach kids about health, safety and nutrition?
I’m taking a class that needs me to volunteer 15 hours at a daycare or a school. I’m suppose to teach the kids about health, safety and nutrition. How can I do that and make it fun for the kids.
Any teachers out there that can give me advise on how to do this?

Peter answers:
Teaching nutrition and health for kids and making it fun so they remember it is not easy.
Nutrition- you can bring in play food that has to do with the pyramid (i would also bring in a cut-out pyramid) help them match where the food goes on the pyramid. Explain that you need certain amounts of this food per day in order for your body to grow big and strong.
Safety- with younger ones; i do units on street lights, wearing a helmet as well as not talking to strangers.
Health- bring in a doll or something explaining main body parts and tell them by playing outstide, doing sports and being active helps your body live longer and stronger. Then play a game with them (even an easy one like duck, duck, goose!)

Daniel asks…
What are some cool body websites teaching nutrition and health for kids?
I have to find a website for a health assignment and i went to google but they arent giving me anything that is useful. Please help if you know any. If they cover the topic of stds, nutrition, smoking, and mental health then that would be even better! Thank you.

Laura asks…
How can you help promote good nutrition for kids at a school?
I have an little group to promote nutrition and health for kids and the rest of year is to promote good nutrition. I would really like to have some better ideas to have to make kids eat better.

Peter answers:
You should try and make cooking and eating healthily fun for them. Have little sessions where they prepare their own meals once a week. It can be something like cold sandwiches but it will show them how to construct a healthy meal. You should also get them to do some projects on the benefits of good nutrition and the negative effects of an unhealthy diet.

Sharon asks…
Can you recommend any books about nutrion and health for kids in Spanish?
I’m teaching Nutrition to kids and adults of all different ages (3 classes: young children, adolescents, and adults) in the Dominican Republic. I’m looking for inexpensive books in Spanish that I can buy for the kids that are food/nutrition related so that they can learn the relation between food and good health. I don’t know much Spanish (i’ll have a translator) so it doesn’t help me much searching for books. Any ideas?

Peter answers:
You can search for resources in the Internet.

James asks…
What should my major be?
I am interested in health, nutrition, kids, and psychology. I want to incorporate all of those things into a career, but I’m not sure which job would work for that. Right now, I am a Health Sciences major and I’m Pre-Physician’s Assistant and I want to work with kids, but the biology and chemistry classes are killing me and I’m not interested in them at all. Any ideas? Thanks!
Another important thing I forgot to include- Salary! I want to make around $80,000-100,000+

Peter answers:
A Pediatrician Or Child Psychologist or Counselor.
Any of these 3 you are already prepared in with the classes you are taking and it sounds to me like you want to make a difference in childrens lives so, any of the three I mentioned. Not to mention the need for theese three things Iv’e mentioned will always be in demand.

Weight Loss Management – Your Questions

Michael asks…
Bridal weight loss and weight management?
You would think having my dress in teh closet would keep me on track but no, I”ve gained weight since I bought it. and it fit so perfectly I did not need alterations. Well 235 days to go!
What are your weight loss and managements tips and plans for your wedding?

Peter answers:
Easy
1) Measure your food…..all prepackaged food tells you what a serving is, and all calorie charts do the same….if it says a serving is 1/2 cup (level, not heaping) then That is what it is.
2) keep a food diary–write down every thing you eat and how much & when…reviewing it you can determine how you are sabotaging yourself.
3) Brisk walking…the overall health benefits are great…do 20 minutes every day for 6 days a week at a good clip (strolling doesn;t count) it’ll retard the munchy urge, aid digestion & overall circulaton, you will tone from it…and you’ll sleep better
4) Sleep at least 7-8 hours every night…research tells us that lack of enough sleep can result in weight gain!
5) drink a big glass of water just before your meal and eat slowly so your stomach can register that you are full when you are really full…the mouth can chew & swallow faster than the stomach can say ‘Full’ which is why people tend to over eat then end up very, very uncomfortable.
6) Up your fiber….go easy at first…fiber will fill you faster than over-processed foods and your colon will love you for it…for example switch from white rice to brown…leave the skins on potatoes…even the mashed ones. Lotsa dark leafy green veggies and steam ‘em-saves the nutrients and doesn’t add calories…retains the yummy taste, too. Avoid over-processed and empty calorie foods too.
7) An apple a day may not keep the Dr. Away but it’s a healthy snack and will curb the ol afternoon snack-attack!
Stay away from diet soda…empty calories and evidence is in that the artifical sugar causes an abnormal sweet craving which can sabotage the dieting….
Good luck.

Robert asks…
Can I mix weight loss management pills with food, like yogurt, or a smoothie or something?
They’re capsules, so I can just empty the contents into whatever. The contents are really spicy and hard to take with water. Thanks.
It’s over the counter.

Peter answers:
Is this something that you purchased over-the-counter or prescribed by a Doctor?
Given that its a non-prescription weight-loss product, may I recommend that you try doing without it.
There are all sorts of strategies for dropping that surplus weight without spending $$$! On stuff that is advertised to do the job, but really may not and like I said, its something to try without the Diet-Pill … Eat a nutritious diet and get some exercise…

Sharon asks…
What are some incontrovertible truths regarding weight loss, management, etc.?
It seems you can find a single direct answer, rather a plethora of contradictory sources. There however MUSt be some incontrovertible truths regarding what is right and what is wrong. I’ve heard as many sources claiming that physical activity is best in the morning as sources claiming that late afternoon is best.

Peter answers:
Weight loss is as simple as calories in vs. Calories out. This is an old and severely outdated mantra that is so wrong is not even funny. The body (endocrine system) responds differently to the ingestion of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. That being the case the source of calories and the ratios of the macronutrients is actually more important than the calories themselves.
As the caloric intakes decreases the quality of nutrients must be increased. A low calorie diet of fish, fruit & veggies and nuts & seeds is severely magnitudes healthier than a low calorie diet of diet sodas and low calorie heavily processed microwaveable foods. People don’t realize that you are what you eat. The body manufactures cells using the nutrients provided in the diet. The entire skeletal system turns over once a year while soft tissue takes about 6 months. Cells manufactured from a diet of heavily processed foods do not function properly. You simply can’t build a quality product out of inferior raw materials. This is also why it takes many people a long time to lose weight and why some never do because the do not make sufficient changes to the diet. This goes back to the quality of nutrients in the diet.
In terms of the time of day that exercise is performed at it really doesn’t make a difference. The quality of exercise is what matters. Many people go to the gym, etc. And just count sets and reps and never actually become more efficient at exercise. If over the course of several months, year. Etc. You are preforming the same routine with the same weights or the same speed/level doing cardio don’t expect your body to change much. Most never see the results that they desire because they don’t push themselves hard enough when exercising. The body has to be given a reason to continually adapt and become more effecient.

Steven asks…
My weight loss management strategies seem futile, help?
I engage in physical activity fairly regularly, but recently over the past few weeks a bought I new scale and it the readings increase marginally every week (I check once per week). This is making all my efforts to manage my weight loss futile.I restrict my calories as much as possible. And im becoming increasingly nervous about eating. Is it showing an increase due to an increase in muscle mass? Last week the scale indicated .8 pound less than this week? Does this mean ive consumed .8*3500 calories over my normal body expenditure? This hardly seems likely.

Peter answers:
I’m not sure about the conversion (pounds to kilograms) but I have read many times that water weight can make over a kilogram difference, so it does not necessarily mean that you have picked up weight, maybe you are just drinking more water.
Give up on checking the scale so often.. The obsession will drive you mad!
